TURMERIC

Turmeric is the boiled, dried, cleaned and polished rhizomes of the Curcuma longa plant. It is a native of India and has been known as the ‘saffron of India’. It is cultivated across India. It has antiseptic properties and apart from use in different cuisines has wide use in medicines. Because of its antiseptic properties it is used in lotions, ointments and skin treatments. It purifies the blood and is good for digestive disorders. Its health beneficial qualities and anti-inflammatory properties make it an important element of treatments right from cancer to Alzheimer’s.

It is an ancient spice from India. Particularly from In Tamil Nadu, Salem and Erode turmeric which is well used in food preparation and is admired for its unique taste.  ‘Erode is well known for its turmeric, as it has 90 per cent curcumin content, which is preferred by overseas countries. Erode produces 600K tones of turmeric every year.
